Pokemon TCG: Ninja Spinner - Revealed Cards

Pokemon TCG: Ninja Spinner - Revealed Cards

Dyl |

Ninja Spinner is the next expansion of the Mega Evolution series, releasing in Japan next month. An overseas equivalent is surely on its way too, but for now here's what we've got to work with.

The Mascot

(this froakie is my favourite card so far btw)

This set is themed and named around Mega Greninja ex, one of the new Mega Evolutions from Pokemon Legends Z-A.

Its ability, Mortal Shuriken, allows once each turn for you place 6 damage counters on an opponent's Pokemon, at the cost of a Water Energy from your hand. The attack is Ninja Spinner (wow!), which deals an additional 80 damage if you place a Water Energy from Greninja back in your hand. Make sure to have plenty of water around when playing with this card!

This is only the third set to feature new Mega Evolutions, after Ascended Heroes/Mega Dream and Perfect Order/Nullifying Zero. While it's unlikely that every single Mega Evolution from the games will be printed in this series, it's hard to imagine that TPC won't at least try to include every new addition.

Why not every Mega Evolution? Well we've been given a bit of a hint in this set:

Must Be Bugged

Beedrill ex makes an appearance! Not Mega Beedrill ex, just ordinary Beedrill. The poor thing hardly ever gets to be playable, I think the Mega deserved to return to TCG.

Sure To Be Added

Greninja is the only Kalos starter Pokemon to appear in its Mega form. Maybe this implies that the other two will feature in their own sets later on? Or maybe just introduced randomly at some point, but there's no way that they'd get left out right?

A Flowerful Combo

Mega Floette ex can utilise the Prism Tower and Ange Floette Stadium cards to power itself up.

Prism Tower allows both players to discard two cards from their hand each turn, drawing one new card, a nice effect to have active.

Ange Floette can be played only if Prism Tower is active, discarding and replacing it (but not on the same turn). It simply increases Mega Floette ex's HP by 150 points, to a maximum of 400!

Mega Floette ex already seems decent on its own, with it's attack Eternity Bloom dealing 200 damage for 3 Psychic Energy, and allows you to search your deck for up to 4 more Basic Psychic Energy to attach to your bench. It's other attack, Gentle Light, heals 30 damage for both Floette and your opponent's active Pokemon. Paired with it's massive HP with Ange Floette it could be strong when set up, but it'll have to be seen if it's worth all of this effort.

Everyone In France Has Psychic Powers

Cards for both of Kalos' iconic Grass/Ghost evolution lines have been shown off too, including a Gourgeist ex who has the ability to discard a random card from your opponent's hand with every 140 power attack!

Also Xerneas!

Legends From Far Away

Cobalion ex appears as a powerful Metal type card. It's ability Metal Road lets you move any amount of Metal Energy from your Benched Pokemon to this one when it becomes active. It's attack is Power Tackle, which has a negative secondary effect stopping Cobalion ex from attacking on the next turn after it was used.

As does every Deoxys form! It's actually been a while since any Deoxys has been printed, especially with every form available. I could be wrong, but I believe this is the first Deoxys Speed card since Sun and Moon?

Supporting Cast

These seem interesting. AZ's Tranquility allows youo to switch out an active Pokemon to the bench, healing it for 80 damage too.

Philippe is exclusively for Metal decks, allowing you to attach up to 2 Metal Energy from the discard pile to a Metal Pokemon.

The Big Catching Net lets you shuffle up to 3 of any Water Pokemon or Energy from your discard pile back into your deck, maybe cool in combination with Mega Greninja ex?

Bubble Water Energy makes any Water Pokemon its attached to immune to Special Conditions, a pretty helpful bonus.

The Magnet Metal Energy allows for any Meta Pokemon its attached to to have no retreat cost.

This seemingly pairs well with Cobalion ex, who can't attack two turns in a row, and also benefits from moving from the Bench to Active spots, so no retreat cost makes it easier to cycle in and out.

The amount of emphasis on Metal that's been revealed so far makes me think that Cobalion won't be the only Metal ex in the set however, or at least I hope it isn't.

Perhaps Philippe's ace of Mega Skarmory could make an appearance, with abilities that synergise with Cobalion ex and Magnet Metal Energy?
