Can Teamwork Prevail In This Explosive Game?

Can Teamwork Prevail In This Explosive Game?

We've been working to build a good library of available board games to buy, I'll likely start highlighting some on here over time. One that's piqued my interest, mainly from how cute it looks, is Bomb Busters from Hisashi Hayashi and Pegasus Spiele.

In Bomb Busters you work with 1-4 other players to cut the correct wires and defuse dangerous bombs. Wire cards are dealt out, marked 1-12, and players take turn guessing numbers in order to diffuse them. The players lose if a red wire is cut, or if the detonator dial reaches the end. There are 66 missions to play through, some designed specifically to help teach the game!

Wire we doing this?

Wire cards are handed out randomly, with the amount of blue, yellow, and red wires specified by the mission card.

Players have to match each wire's number with another wire in order to cut them, by pointing to and guessing the number on another player's wire. Wires will be sorted in ascending order, however it's impossible to know for sure which numbers any other player has on hand, and potentially how many of each number.

Making an incorrect guess on a blue or yellow wire will move forward the detonator dial, and reveal the true number of the chosen wire. Attempting to cut a red wire will end the game immediately, you've all blown up!

The game also features supportive Equipment cards, which are dealt at the start of each mission to assist you. The amount of equipment cards is always equal to the amount of players. These cards are all labelled with a number, and become playable once wires of that number have been cut, but can only be used once. Similarly, each player is assigned a character card, with an ability that can be used once at any point in the mission.

A mission should take around 15-30 minutes to complete. It's perfect for a quick burst of fun with friends, while getting your brain gears moving too! Even after completing all 66 missions the game is always replayable for how much variance can occur in each game, and for experiencing it with different people too. Definitely a game to look at if you're looking for some more casual fun in your intense board game cupboard.
