Godzilla's Big Step into TCG - How far has he advanced?

This summer, creator of Godzilla Toho, in collaboration with Bushiroad, released the first set of the Godzilla Card Game. The game is focused on Godzilla's 70 year long history, featuring cards based on films across the whole time period, and is designed to play like the monster attacks from the big guy's media.

How do they recreate the classic city destruction?

Players build decks around a 'Monster Card', with the goal of the game being to achieve a "Victory through Invasion", invading the opponent's zone with your Monster Card, or a "Victory through Countering", defending from the opponent's Monster Card with Battle Cards. When a Monster Card is countered, it can be ranked up to a stronger version of itself, with the final form being Rank 4. Defending from such a card is certainly worthy of being a game winning play!

The game features white, red, and blue cards. White can be used in any deck, while players will have to choose either red or blue to build the bulk of their deck around, you can't use both!

Already Ashore!

The first set, "Godzilla vs. Godzilla" released on July 5th of this year, along with two 60-card starter decks, "Godzilla Minus One" and "Heisei Series", based on the hit 2023 film, and the era of films from 1984 to 1995. Right now the card list heavily features these two eras, but also includes plenty of memorable moments and characters from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and 2000s! There's so much Godzilla media out there that the creators can pull from, my personal hope is to see cards based on the Godzilla Singular Point show.

Promo packs with exclusive cards are also going around for distribution at events. Larger events so far have been held in Japan and Singapore, with exclusive top cut prizing too. Who knows what the future of the game may be?

Next Destination

The second set of the game has been revealed and named, "G: Monsters Raid Again", and releases October 25th. It's confirmed to represent fan favourite films and moments like Shin GodzillaGodzilla vs. GiganGodzilla vs. King Ghidorah, and more. The primary focus seems to be on extraterrestrial kaiju like Gigan, Ghidorah, and Spacegodzilla. At least one feature from Chibi Godzilla Raids Again has also been confirmed! The card artwork hasn't been revealed yet, we'll be sure to report on it when it is.

In terms of gameplay, the addition of Green cards has been confirmed! Many of the new otherworldly creatures are likely to be green as there'll have to be enough cards for players to make a variety of green decks. It'll be interesting to see what kind of playstyles emerge, I'd imagine that the new Monster Cards have some pretty different strengths.

Join the action!

We're certainly excited to see how this game evolves. If you are too you can pre-order the new set, and order the first set from our site here!
