The News
Yesterday Pokemon released a statement saying that "due to challenges impacting product delivery dates" the new and anticipated Mega Evolutions set will now release on the 10th of October in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, two weeks after the original release date of September 26th.
When will the set be playable at events?
Concerns towards playing the TCG were addressed by Play Pokemon with them confirming that the set will be legal in standard play starting October 24th in affected regions, giving players two weeks to build their decks before Lille Regional that weekend. There aren't any major events between the old and new release dates, so originally there would have just been strictly more time, but its good to have confirmation.
What makes this set so important?
As the name suggests, Mega Pokemon are returning for the first time since Sun and Moon sets. Mega Pokemon are generally more powerful than other EX cards with the downside of being worth 3 Prize Cards to knock out instead of 2. It's high risk high reward. They can evolve from earlier stage Pokemon directly into their mega, and some are even basic stage cards, making them able to find space in so many decks. On top of it all, they're so popular among fans. This set will be a big deal.
The set will feature 10 Mega Evolved Pokemon, but it's been confirmed that other upcoming sets will continue with Mega Pokemon, like the confirmed Mega Charizard X and new forms found in Legends Z-A like Mega Dragonite.
Looking forward to October 10th? You'll be able to purchase Mega Evolution releases the day they're available here at The Game Collection!
