Pokémon's Trading Card Game is celebrating 30 years with its biggest anniversary set yet. Lets take a look at some of the chase cards from the set in closer detail!
Meowth 144/128, Alolan Meowth 139/128 & Galarian Meowth 141/128
I have decided to bundle these 3 arts together as I would like to think they are connecting as either one giant building or maybe just a neighbourhood! Each card featuring the trio of Meowth forms during different times of the day. This trio illustrated by Okubo portrays what I imagine would be a day in the life of a Meowth. Sleeping, getting up to mischief or just chilling around!
Lapras 131/128
This stunning artwork by Amelicart shows highlights what I think Lapras portrays which is a sense of calmness. Lapras is joined by Psyduck, two Spheal and a little Shaymin perched on the rock, with two more Spheal visible further out in the background. Together, they're relaxing in a sunny lagoon, giving the card a warm and charming feel.
Fuecoco Ex 147/128 & Salamence Ex 156/128
I decided to put these two together because they feel like two views of the same celebration. Both cards show a lively town festival, full of colourful bunting, floating balloons, confetti and hot air balloons. Although they were illustrated by different artists, Atsushi Furusawa for Fuecoco ex and Ryota Murayama for Salamence ex, they seem to offer two different perspectives on the festival, with Fuecoco down on the ground and Salamence up in the air.
Gengar Ex 154/128
As we come closer to Halloween, what better Pokémon personifies this other than Gengar amazingly illustrated by CHORISO. With glowing lanterns, twisted trees and a haunted house in the background. For anyone who loves Gengar, this is the kind of card that deserves pride of place in a collection.
Greninja Ex 148/128
Making some moves on the dance floor, this Greninja ex card illustrated by GIDORA carries the 30th anniversary celebrations into the night. Joined by other Pokémon such as Eevee, Illumise and Lucario, Greninja is surrounded by fireworks and streaks of light from the show, creating a sense of speed that perfectly suits this swift ninja Pokémon.
Pikachu ex 149/128
Going from night into day, the Pikachu ex card illustrated by Kantaro depicts Pikachu cheerfully running through the middle of the 30th celebrations accompanied by a wide variety of Pokémon (Let us know if you can name them all!). I feel like all this along with the name of one of it's attacks being 'Pika-Pika Parade' gives the impression where everyone is coming together to celebrate thirty years of Pokémon.
Pikachu ex 150/128
As night falls, Pikachu carries on its parade, this time joined by a different array of Pokémon including Eevee, Umbreon, Hisuian Zorua, Gengar, Lucario, Galarian Meowth and Chandelure, among many others, all celebrating beneath the lights and fireworks.
Alongside the daytime parade on the other Pikachu ex, it really feels like the anniversary celebrations have carried on from morning to night, with Pikachu leading the fun from start to finish.
